Best Paper Award at CISBAT 2023

With more than 10 paper presentations and one Best Paper Award, we can definitely say that CISBAT 2023 was a success!

Congratulations to all the contributors and our team, especially to Justin McCarty, Dr. Christoph Waibel, Dr. Alina Galimshina, Prof. Dr. Alexander Hollberg and Prof. Dr. Arno Schlueter who have won the Best Paper Award with: “Do we need a saw? Carbon-based analysis of facade BIPV performance under partial shading from nearby trees.”

The paper explores the impact of shading from trees on BIPV performance and the potential conflict between the carbon sequestration benefits of trees and the carbon mitigation benefits of BIPV. The results indicate that the removal of trees has a negative influence on the carbon balance of the building when considering LCA. Other features of the model space such as the grid carbon intensity or the configuration of the BIPV array carry more significance for energy production and lifecycle carbon emissions.
