Award: Adaptive Solar Facade - Solskin wins Watt d’Or 2023 in the category “Buildings and Space”

What a great start: The Adaptive Solar Facade has been awarded the  Watt d’Or 2023 in the category “Buildings and Space”. The Watt d’Or, issued by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, recognizes innovative energy technologies on their way to market application.

The Professorship  of Architecture and Building Systems and the spin-off Zurich Soft Robotics GmbH received the award today at the award ceremony in Berne.

Putting the future of energy into practice, the Adaptive Solar Facade, currently developed to become the marked-ready product “Solskin”, is showcased in the Hilo unit at EMPA.

The lightweight and mobile solar modules are mounted on a lightweight substructure attached to the facade of a building. Thanks to an intelligent control system, the modules automatically follow the sun's trajectory during the day, thus maximizing the electrical PV output. The modules can also provide shade inside the building during hot days, and can adapt to the occupant’s needs. Learn more about the system on our dedicated page or on www.solskin.swiss

We congratulate all past and current contributors to the project,  and all the winners in the other categories for 2023!
